Festival Information
The Career and Technical Education Fair at the RCTC Heintz Campus offers students the opportunity to explore a wide range of exciting career opportunities in an engaging atmosphere. It's a fun day of learning, sharing and hands-on experience that provides career awareness education, information on career fields and opportunities to speak with students currently in the programs.

The event will be at the Rochester Community and Technical College Heintz Center on April 27th, 2017, starting at 10:00 AM.

Career Areas at the Fair
  • Administrative Assistant / Medical Administrative Assistant (AA/MAA)

    In the administrative assistant program, students will develops office skills, knowledge, and attitudes sought by today’s employers. Extensive training is provided in professionalism, collaboration, applied customer service skills, communication, current software applications and other office-related technology. Administrative assistants will master the use of business computer software. RCTC’s medical transcription and medical administrative assistant programs stress extensive building of medical terminology and a highly developed skill in medical transcription as well as general office skills and technology training. Medical letters to referring physicians along with reports in the medical record regarding the patients’ examinations, operations, and tests are emphasized. Students will learn how diseases affect the body and which medications and other treatments are used to treat illnesses. Students will be trained for transcriptionist and office support positions in medical offices, clinics, hospitals, insurance companies, and firms that provide medical supplies and equipment.
  • Auto Mechanic Technician (AMT)

    RCTC’s auto mechanic technician major is designed to prepare students for careers in the automotive industry. The auto mechanics program will be demonstrating how we communicate with the on-board diagnostic systems of today’s vehicles as well as various parts, special tools and their functions. Join us to hear more about the job opportunities in the auto industry and visit with our current students.
  • Building Utilities Mechanic (BUM)

    Building utilities mechanic program is designed to train students for a career in building maintenance. Students train in electrical, boilers, refrigeration, welding and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning). Current students will demonstrate several components in a lab setting. Come learn about all the different job opportunities available.
  • Business Administration and Business Management (BUS)

    Every business, government and non-profit entity has a need for accounting. Pay and benefits vary with employer size, location and type. RCTC’s Business Administration and Business Management programs are designed to provide an overview of the practical and theoretical knowledge needed to prepare students for careers in marketing, management, sales, advertising, retailing, wholesaling and related fields. These programs are designed to provide opportunities for students to implement and test the skills they learn.
  • Carpentry (CR)

    The carpentry program is designed to train students to construct residential structures using standard building materials and power tools. Our students will demonstrate modern cabinet building equipment and assembly techniques. Students in our program build a house each year.
  • Child, Youth and Family Studies (CYFS)

    Child, Youth, and Family Studies is a versatile major. It prepares students for a wide range of fulfilling careers in education, psychology, social work, family medicine, public health, juvenile justice, family law, and public policy. A certificate, diploma, or AAS degree often leads to jobs as childcare professionals, Head Start teachers, school-age care workers, youth workers, child advocate, paraprofessionals, personal care attendants, outreach workers, and family service workers. When combined with an education degree, a Child, Youth, and Family Studies major provides a strong foundation in child development and teaching.
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD)

    Computer Aided Drafting is a hands-on career using CAD software to draw and design mechanical prints. CAD drafters turn concepts, ideas, and rough sketches into mechanical prints, and then create 'prototypes' in our lab. Visiting students will have the opportunity to see students use the design software; demonstrate projects they have created, and see our laser and prototype machines create parts live. Each student will receive a cool souvenir to keep.
  • Equine Science (EQSC)

    The equine science program prepares students to become horse trainers, riding instructors, barn managers, animal caretakers, and business owners. The program has a mixture of lecture, riding, and horse training courses. (Information table only. A session will NOT be offered.)
  • Horticulture Technology (HORT)

    Imagine if you were the head of landscape management at Sea Worldâ„¢, the White House, or Target Field! Maybe you will design a healing garden offering comfort to cancer patients at the local hospital. Find out more about the endless opportunities that the Horticulture industry offers by participating in this hands-on session. Career fair participants will tour the greenhouse and SMART garden.
  • Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice (LAWE/CRJU)

    Train to be a police officer, deputy sheriff, corrections officer, security or for other law enforcement positions. Instructors and current students will be available to discuss the program and will demonstrate some of the lab exercises performed in our classes. There may be an opportunity to participate in a simulated experience.
  • Surgical Technology (ST)

    The surgical technology degree graduates will have the knowledge and skills necessary for careers working in an operating room. The surgical technologist prepares the surgical environment and functions as a team member during surgical procedures. Surgical Technology is a growing field with excellent career opportunities. Hospitals are the primary employers of surgical technologists.
  • Veterinary Technology (VT)

    The veterinary technology is a growing field that enables individuals to be closely involved with animal health care. Students studying in this field learn about animal nursing, surgery, anesthesia, radiography, office procedures and laboratory skills. The program provides many hands-on opportunities. Visit our labs and see our animal models.
  • Welding Technology (WELD)

    The welding technology program is a one-semester program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to cut and join metal surfaces. Students learn multiple welding techniques. Instructors and students will provide a soldering demonstration and participants will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on experience.
